Exercice - Pluperfect or past perfect

Copy the following sentences using the pluperfect.


Question 1

- I traveled around Europe in the 70s. 

She said she ... . 

She said she had traveled around Europe in the 70s. 

Remember: to form the past participle of a regular verb we just add -ed at the end. 

Question 2

- We have never been to Paris before. 

They said they ... .

They said they had never been to Paris before.

 

Remember: to report the  "present perfect", you have to use the "past perfect". 

Question 3

- He didn't ride a horse with us on that day. 

They said he ... .

 

They said he hadn't ridden a horse with them on that day. 

In this case, you need to change the word "us" into "them" because you are using indirect speech. 

Pay attention: you may need to change some words from the original sentence. 

Question 4

- Did you go to the cinema with Charlie?

He asked if you ... . 

He asked if you had gone to the cinema with Charlie. 

Question 5

- I didn't order the lasagna.

She said she ... .

She said she hadn't ordered the lasagna. 

Question 6

- Hannah really enjoyed reading that book. 

They said Hannah ... .

They said Hannah had really enjoyed reading that book. 

Question 7

- When I arrived to the house, the party had already finished!

She said that when she ... !

She said that when she had arrived to the house, the party had already finished! 

Remember: the "past perfect" doesn't change in reported or indirect speech. 

Question 8

- We didn't put any make-up on that night. 

They said they ... .

They said they hadn't put any make-up on that night. 

Remember, the past participle of the verb "put" is "put".
